Editor’s Note

The audio quality of these episodes… well, sucks. There’s just no way around it. If you can’t handle the sound, please skip ahead a few episodes, where our quality gets significantly better. We appreciate you taking the time to listen to our back catalogue from when we were rookies crowded around bad mics, but we totally understand if you can’t handle the quality issues.

S2E23 | Centaur Mentor Journey

Podcast Episode

Episode 9 | June 6, 2021

Host

Van

About

It was inevitable that the Boob Tube Boys would soon have their first encounter with Kevin Sorbo. It just works that way. Van’s hosting duties resume with the first of two ’90s sword-and-sandals episodes, this one covering Sorbo’s hulky Hercules (or Heracles).

Hercules’s centaur mentor (the title!) is dying, which by TV logic means Herc must negotiate peace between a slobby human named Mr. Greed and the centaur population of a vacant field. Spencer isn’t sure that the Hercules of myth would allow so many people to live, while Brian is freaked out by the show’s jerky CG.

Does Hercules: The Legendary Journey pull off its attempt at a morality tale? Should Kevin Sorbo have remained a model, far away from the world of scripted dialogue? These questions and more are answered in a rousing edition of Boob Tube Boys.

Highlights

-The first of so much Sorbo talk

-Van navigates the confusing names of mythology

-The worst sandals in the history of fiction

S3E8 | The King of Assassins

Podcast Episode

Episode 10 | June 10, 2021

Host

Van

About

Xena: Warrior Princess shares plenty of DNA with last week’s Hercules: The Legendary Journey, but the Tubers quickly realize it is much more fun to watch than its dumb older brother. “The King of Assassins” doesn’t even feature much of Lucy Lawless’s powerful title character, and it’s still a real romp.

An assassin is on the loose, and he’s after Cleopatra. He also happens to be the twin brother of Xena regular Joxer, an impish jester type who doesn’t murder people. As if Cleopatra didn’t have enough on her plate, Bruce Campbell would like to leer at and then have sex with her. It’s up to Gabrielle, Joxer, and some other people to save the day.

Van, Spencer, and Brian discuss Xena’s Raimi-inspired feel, Kevin Sorbo’s arrogance, and everyone’s childhood experience with the show. Finally, the fellas compare Hercules and Xena.

Highlights

-No one likes Joxer

-Like four hours of Minions talk

-Horny Bruce Campbell
