Editor’s Note
The audio quality of these episodes… well, sucks. There’s just no way around it. If you can’t handle the sound, please skip ahead a few episodes, where our quality gets significantly better. We appreciate you taking the time to listen to our back catalogue from when we were rookies crowded around bad mics, but we totally understand if you can’t handle the quality issues.

About
The Boob Tube Boys kick off their podcasting journey together by covering California Dreams, a ’90s show about a polite teen rock band. Against all odds, Brian found California Dreams memorable as a child and decided to introduce it to Van and Spencer.
The Tubers talk about a season two episode in which the titular band’s singer Sam loses all her money when a dirtbag mechanic turns out to be, well, a dirtbag. Will Sam’s musician friends be able to get her money back in time for her to return to China for Chinese New Year?
Later on, Brian fields questions about California Dreams no one has a reason to know. Van dives into the confusing world of California Dreams YouTube comments, and a star is born.
Highlights
-First-time references to show staples such as Van claiming to be a doctor, Kati (producer and domestic tolerator of Van), pro wrestling, Brian’s love of guitar music, and Spencer’s inability to burp
-The possibility of Discuss Gus, the spin-off podcast about a sad, filthy mechanic
-Dawn Pearce’s California Dreams analysis

About
There’s really only one word to describe this episode: cool. The guys discuss California Dreams again, but this time the story centers on a feud between the two toughest dudes at Pacific Coast High: Jake Sommers and Tommy Keating. Will either bruiser back down from their inevitable showdown?
The fellas also discuss cast changes and the show’s decision to shelve its initial premise. Spencer really feels the lack of Sam in this episode, while Brian and Van remain too distracted by French fry auto accidents to care.
Van takes another trip to the YouTube comments section to see what the masses are saying about California Dreams. Brian asks Spencer and Van about various bad boys throughout TV history, then Van introduces the next Boob Tube Boys show.
Highlights
-First-time references to show staples such as Spencer’s passion for breakfast, Van’s encyclopedic knowledge of the Metal Gear Solid franchise, and middle-aged men playing younger in media
-Adventurous conversation about the guest appearances made in “Rebel Without a Nerve”
-Long chunks of cool guy talk about leather jackets, motorcycles, and ’90s teen insults
